Imperial Russia – Order of St. Vladimir – 4th Class with Swords – 14K Gold – Kokoshnik Marked – c.1900
An original and rare example of the Order of St. Vladimir, 4th Class, in solid gold with crossed swords for military merit. This beautiful piece, made around 1900, is an excellent representation of the highest craftsmanship of late Imperial Russia. The order is marked with kokoshnik hallmarks on the ring and sword hilts, indicating Russian assay of 14K gold.
Historical Background
The Order of St. Vladimir was founded by Catherine the Great on 22 September 1782. It was awarded for both civil and military service in four classes. The 4th Class with Swords was awarded specifically to military personnel for bravery and distinguished service in combat. This version, in gold with red and black enamel, is among the most iconic and collectible of Russian Imperial orders.
